Participant Spotlight: Meet Erik!

Meet Erik

Erik’s golf story started in the back seat of the car. Every time his family drove past the course near their old home off Morganton, he’d ask if he was old enough to play yet. The day he turned 5, they signed him up. He started in 2022 at 7 Lakes and has been at Pinewild ever since. When he’s not on the course, you’ll find him playing basketball and hockey, setting up Nerf battles, or building Lego creations and forts. He’s the second oldest of five, with three sisters and a brother.

What Erik Loves About First Tee

Erik’s favorite part of First Tee is that everything turns into a game. “Instead of ‘go hit this ball here,’ they say, ‘you get this many points if you make it between these two hoops.’” Right now he’s working on his putting, and he thinks he’s getting better. He has two big goals: a hole in one and hitting a fairway wood on a course. If you’re thinking about joining, Erik says to just jump in, because everyone is welcoming.

From Coach John

“Erik is the definition of ‘coachable.’ He comes to class each week with a smile, a positive attitude, and a genuine willingness to learn. This week, his teamwork really stood out during our putting activity. He was quick to help other players understand the game and made sure everyone could participate and have fun. His attitude, respect for others, and desire to help his fellow players are exactly the qualities we hope to develop through First Tee.”
