Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Coach Pat

Growing up in Ft. Lauderdale, Pat Rudovsky grew up playing many sports, but mostly focused on playing tennis. She looked up to her teacher and mentor, Jimmy Evert. One of the greatest lessons she learned was how to win or lose gracefully with the saying “It’s not if you win or lose, it’s how you play the game” instilled in her.

Pat moved to Boston about 60 years ago after she decided she wanted to start working and making a living for herself immediately, instead of going to college. After raising her two sons, Pat had more time on her hands, and she “caught the golfing bug”.  She began competing in lots of member-guest tournaments in the Boston area, really enjoying the game of golf. Moving to Pinehurst 19 years ago when she got married at the Village Chapel, Pat now has two home courses: The Country Club in Brookline, MA, and The Country Club of North Caroline in Pinehurst, NC.

About four years ago, she first got involved with First Tee in Boston, volunteering with First Tee at Franklin Park. Two years later, she met with Teresa Kline, the Vice President of First Tee – Sandhills Board of Directors, who introduced her to Courtney Stiles and First Tee – Sandhills. Her first coaching experience in North Carolina was Spring 2025 at Campbell House in Southern Pines with the 6-7 year-olds. Currently, Pat coaches 7-11 year-olds at Legacy Golf Club in Aberdeen.

“I so enjoy the coaching and the expressions of the kiddos faces when they have made a putt or hit a great drive. It’s magical.”

Her fondest memory was coaching the new-to-golf class Campbell House when a young boy who was previously not interested in golf “finally realized how much fun golf was and hit a great shot!” Pat said they “all gave him a high 5 and he promised to return!”
