Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Coach Elaine!

Elaine grew up in Valdosta, GA and she and her husband (who was in the military) got relocated to Fort Bragg, NC.  Her fondest memory of Golf is when her son was trying to convince her to play this sport. She told him if he convinced her , she would give it consideration. He looked her in the eye and said “mom you’re getting old. I’m going to get old, but if you learn this sport and keep your health this is something you and I can always do together.” Those words sealed her effort to learn to play golf.

While living in MD, she competed in several tournaments at Andrews AFB Golf Course, and in won the Women Club Championship in 2008. Between 2009 and 2012 she volunteered with the First Tee Program in Mitchelville, MD. When her job rotated her back to Fort Bragg, NC,  she volunteered with the First Tee-Sandhillls between 2013 -2015 at Baywood Golf Course. Now she assist coaching the 7-11 year olds at Stryker Golf Course.

Working with the kiddos and watching their expressions and progress is a wonderful experience and should be shared by everyone. Elaine’s term for Golf is “God Offers Life Forever.”
