First Tee is transitioning nationally to age-based format for all programs!

What: Participants will be grouped by age within their weekly class. We will no longer use levels (Target, PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle) to determine placement.

Why: Extensive research and feedback from participants and parents consistently shows that age-appropriate programming will increase both engagement and retention of kids, especially older youth. This change will enable us to have a greater impact as kids stay with us longer and help Chapters to grow.

Benefit to Kids & Families: Kids want to be with others who are at or near the same age. Parents are familiar with age-based as most sports and activities are set up this way. As participants stay with us longer, they will be eligible for more life-changing experiences and opportunities including scholarships and national opportunities.

Benefit to Chapter: This change will allow coaches to deliver course content in developmentally appropriate ways. This also positions First Tee more in line with other sports and camps. Youth may find the content fresh and they feel welcome to bring friends and create more social engagement especially at the older age groups.

Age Requirements

First Tee – Sandhills is open to all juniors between the ages of 5 to senior in high school. For Spring programs, participants register based upon their age as of April 15, 2023. Class exceptions for age will not be made.  We apologize in advance if this impacts your family. If your child is eligible for more than one class based on their age, please choose the day of the week and location that works best for your family.

At each age group, participants engage with the 5 Key Commitments: Pursuing Goals, Growing through Challenge, Collaborating with Others, Building Positive Self-Identity, and Using Good Judgement, while focusing on mastering golf fundamentals and building upon a golf skill foundation as they advance within the program.

Refund and Transfers

For more detailed information please check out our FAQ’s page.

Refunds are no longer offered. Yes, you may request a session transfer, but we cannot guarantee availability and requests must be made two (2) weeks in advance from the currently registered session or camp starting date.

Participant Attendance

Attendance is a key component to the success, development and progression of the First Tee program. Participants are expected to attend all program dates with a maximum of two (2) missed classes per eight-week session or one (1) missed class per six-week session. We ask that while reviewing our program schedule you choose to register for a program that’s schedule allows you to meet our attendance requirements. Program space is limited and out of respect and courtesy for fellow participants, volunteers and organizers it is important to commit to the program schedule.

Scholarships

Are available based on your families requested need of support. All scholarship participants will be afforded the same opportunities for participation as non-scholar shipped participants. We ask that only cases of necessity apply. To apply for a scholarship, you must complete your request online as part of the official registration process. Once the chapter is able to review your request, you will be notified on the level of scholarship provided and alerted to complete registration and confirm your child’s spot in the program.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement or possible inclement weather a decision regarding the cancellation of programming will be made at minimally 90 minutes before the scheduled start time. An email will be sent to the address on file and follow us on social media for the most up-to-date announcements.

Equipment & Attire

First Tee – Sandhills will provide equipment free of charge for use during our weekly curriculum programs for those that do not have their own. We will ensure that borrowed equipment meets the needs of your participant and is the correct size. Participants are asked to wear golf or athletic attire that is weather appropriate. This includes appropriate length shorts or slacks, shirts with sleeves and tucked in, tennis or flat soled closed toe shoes.

Need to borrow equipment? If you didn’t complete the equipment request form during registration, please do so HERE.
